Tater and Gem have been sniffing around for the best things to do this week, and the Valley is serving up a nice summer mix: fair food, live music, outdoor theater, family activities, and easy weeknight fun.
Here are a few fun picks worth adding to your calendar.
1. Canyon County Fair
The Vibe: Classic summer fair fun with carnival rides, fair food, livestock shows, local vendors, family activities, and plenty of “just one more snack” energy.
When & Where: Thursday, July 23 – Sunday, July 26 · Canyon County Fairgrounds, Caldwell
Best For: Families, fair food fans, kids, teens, grandparents, and anyone who still believes summer is better with carnival lights.
Tater’s Take: “Fair food, carnival rides, and kids with sticky fingers? This is basically my Super Bowl.”

2. Alive After 5 at The Grove Plaza
The Vibe: A free outdoor concert in the heart of downtown Boise with live music, summer energy, and a good excuse to meet friends after work.
When & Where: Wednesday, July 22 · 5 PM–8 PM · The Grove Plaza, Downtown Boise
Best For: Music lovers, after-work hangouts, casual date night, downtown wanderers, and anyone who likes free summer concerts.
Tater’s Take: “Free music downtown? I’ll be the one near the snacks pretending I’m part of the band.”
3. Idaho Shakespeare Festival
The Vibe: Outdoor theater, summer evening air, pre-show music, and one of the most Boise ways to spend a night out.
When & Where: Performances continue through July · Idaho Shakespeare Festival Amphitheater, Boise
Best For: Date night, theater fans, visiting friends, and anyone who wants a night that feels a little more special.
Gem’s Take: “Blanket, picnic, live theater, and a summer evening? This is my kind of Treasure Valley magic.”
4. Tuesdays on the Creek
The Vibe: A relaxed summer concert series in downtown Caldwell with live music, food nearby, and a great evening-on-the-plaza feel.
When & Where: Tuesday evenings · 6 PM–9 PM · Indian Creek Plaza, Caldwell
Best For: Families, music lovers, casual date night, and anyone looking for an easy weeknight outing.
Tater’s Take: “Live music by the Creek sounds like a pretty solid Tuesday. Bonus points if someone drops a fry.”
5. DT Plays in Downtown Boise
The Vibe: Free pop-up yard games downtown, including cornhole, hula hoops, giant Jenga, and easy all-ages fun.
When & Where: Every other Tuesday through August 11 · Downtown Boise parks and open spaces
Best For: Families, downtown workers, kids, casual friend meetups, and anyone who likes a little friendly competition.
Tater’s Take: “Giant Jenga downtown? I promise not to wag my tail near the tower. Probably.”

Canyon County Fair
This one gets Tater’s top paw this week because it has a little bit of everything: rides, food, animals, music, vendors, and good old-fashioned fair fun.
Why Tater likes it: It’s one of those events where everybody can find something to enjoy — kids get the rides, adults get the food, and Tater gets to dream about dropped funnel cake.

Idaho Shakespeare Festival
If your usual date night is dinner and scrolling for something to do afterward, this is your upgrade. Grab dinner, bring a blanket, enjoy the pre-show music, and settle in for outdoor theater under the Idaho sky.
Gem’s Take: “Tater calls this ‘fancy picnic night.’ I call it a perfect summer date.”
Boise Art Museum
This is a great “slow down and do something different” pick — especially if you want an indoor option with art, exhibits, and a cooler break from the summer heat.
Best For: Art lovers, families, casual dates, solo outings, and anyone looking for a quieter local experience.
Gem’s Take: “Not every outing needs carnival rides. Sometimes a peaceful wander through the museum is exactly the right move.”
