Hey Treasure Valley!
October has apparently decided subtlety is overrated.
This week we've got witches roaming The Village, dachshunds sprinting through Downtown Caldwell, 1,500 pumpkins looking for new homes in Eagle, a FREE Halloween movie under the stars in Kuna, horses taking over the Idaho State Museum and three Disney worlds colliding in Boise.
Tater heard the words "Running of the Wieners" and has spent the last 20 minutes asking whether there is a retriever division.
There is not.
Gem has explained this four times.
Let's find something fun to do.

1. Witches' Night Out — Meridian 🧙♀️
The Vibe: The Village at Meridian goes delightfully witchy Thursday night with live music, a vendor fair, entertainment, raffles, prizes, costumes and Halloween atmosphere throughout The Village. The event is FREE, with raffle fundraising benefiting Faces of Hope.
This year's entertainment includes Nite Wave on The Village Green, DJ Eric Rhodes at Big Al's and plenty of opportunities to show up looking considerably more magical than you did at work Thursday afternoon.
When & Where: Thursday, October 8 · 6–9 PM · The Village at Meridian
Best For: Girls' night out, couples, friend groups, Halloween lovers and anyone with a witch hat sitting in a closet waiting for its moment.
Gem's Take: "Finally, an event where showing up with a broom is considered appropriate transportation." · Tater's Take: "Still waiting for Wizards' Night Out." · Witches' Night Out
2. Dogtoberfest — Caldwell 🐶
The Vibe: Somebody looked at Oktoberfest and correctly asked, "But where are all the dogs?"
Dogtoberfest takes over Indian Creek Plaza Friday evening with live entertainment, seasonal beer, Bavarian flair, dogs in costumes and the glorious spectacle known as the Running of the Wieners — a dachshund race right across the Plaza. All dogs are welcome, and dressing them for the occasion is encouraged.
When & Where: Friday, October 9 · 5–9 PM · Indian Creek Plaza
Best For: Dog people, families, couples and anybody who believes tiny-legged athletes deserve our respect.
Tater's Take: "I have reviewed the competition and remain confident I could take them." · You're a retriever, Tater. · Gem's Take: "Please do not challenge the dachshunds." · Dogtoberfest
3. Eagle Harvest Fest — Eagle 🎃
The Vibe: Downtown Eagle is going all-in on fall Saturday with kids' activities, games, live music, food vendors, a market, blacksmith demonstrations and fall photo opportunities. This year's festival also gets a visit from the restored Idaho Liberty Bell.
But here's the headline:
They're giving away 1,500 pumpkins.
The Great Pumpkin Giveaway lets kids decorate a pumpkin and take it home FREE while supplies last.
When & Where: Saturday, October 10 · 10 AM–4 PM · Heritage Park and State Street in Downtown Eagle
Best For: Families, fall lovers, pumpkin people and anyone looking for an easy Saturday outing.
Tater's Take: "I initially heard 1,500 PUP-kins and was disappointed by the clarification." · Gem's Take: "We're leaving him home." · Eagle Harvest Fest
4. Saddle Up, Idaho! — Boise 🤠
The Vibe: Here's a FREE Boise event that feels unmistakably Idaho.
Saddle Up, Idaho! celebrates the state's horse culture and heritage with live demonstrations, hands-on activities, crafts, food trucks, live music, cowboy poetry and even square-dancing lessons.
The musical lineup includes Great Bait and Good Morning June, plus River City Rounders with Not Your Granny's Square Dance.
When & Where: Saturday, October 10 · 10 AM–5 PM · Idaho State Museum
Best For: Families, Idaho-history fans, horse lovers and anyone whose weekend could benefit from cowboy poetry.
Gem's Take: "Crafts, horses, live music and square dancing. Idaho understood the assignment." · Tater's Take: "Will the horses be available for consultation?" · No. · Saddle Up, Idaho!
5. Spooky Movie Night — Kuna 🎃
The Vibe: A Halloween movie under the stars, and the price is exactly right.
Kuna Parks and Recreation is showing Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas Friday evening at Bernie Fisher Park. The movie starts at dusk, around 7:30 PM, admission is FREE and no tickets are required. Food vendors are also scheduled.
Bring blankets or low-back chairs and settle in for Jack Skellington on the outdoor screen.
When & Where: Friday, October 9 · dusk, approximately 7:30 PM · Bernie Fisher Park, 201 W. Main Street, Kuna
Best For: Families, couples, Disney fans and anyone looking for an inexpensive Friday night.
Gem's Take: "Blanket. Snacks. Halloween movie. Done." · Tater's Take: "You forgot additional snacks." · Kuna Spooky Movie Night

🎃 Eagle Harvest Fest
This week's crown goes to Eagle.
Why?
Because Harvest Fest is exactly what a great local fall event should be — easy, family friendly, packed with things to wander around and see, and FREE.
You've got live music, vendors, food, blacksmith demonstrations, kids' activities and fall photo opportunities. This year's festival also includes a special appearance by the restored Idaho Liberty Bell as it travels the state.
And then there's the Great Pumpkin Giveaway.
1,500 pumpkins will be given to kids to decorate and take home while supplies last.
That's not a pumpkin giveaway.
That's a pumpkin relocation program.
When & Where: Saturday, October 10 · 10 AM–4 PM · Heritage Park and State Street in Downtown Eagle
Best For: Pretty much anybody who wants an easy fall Saturday.
Tater's Take: "I have calculated that 1,500 pumpkins would make approximately one enormous pie." · Tater, that's not why they're giving them away. · Eagle Harvest Fest details
